A Northland man who breached a protection order three times, but whose ex-girlfriend says the police did nothing when she reported him, has been jailed.
Gene Hanham has been sentenced to two years four months in prison by the Whangarei District Court, after earlier admitting to three charges of breaching a protection order, assault against a female and threatening to kill.
His ex-girlfriend, Ulanda Cochrane, said she reported the breaches to a senior police officer but it was not until she went to another officer that Hanham was arrested.
Ms Cochrane then laid a complaint against the first officer.
The Whangarei police and the Independent Police Conduct Authority are investigating.
