ACC, the police, councils and the Transport Agency are deploying devices to counter radar detectors used by speeding motorists.
Radar speed drones have been in place on certain roads for more than a year: they emit a beam which sets off car radar detectors, with a false alarm.
ACC provides the drones, which cost up to $150 each, to councils and the Transport Agency which installs and operates the devices.
ACC estimates it has distributed about 70 of the devices, at a cost of $10,000.
It says the devices have been shown to reduce speed in the areas where they operate.
Detectors to be banned?
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Steven Joyce is waiting for a report from officials on whether radar detectors should be banned.
However, Mr Joyce says it's not a priority and the best way motorists can avoid being detected is by not speeding.
