Toyota is recalling about 60 cars in New Zealand as part of a worldwide recall because of fears their accelerator pedals may become stuck.
Toyota New Zealand says a fault with the American manufactured accelerator assembly has lead to 2.3 million units of the Toyota Avensis being recalled in the United States and more than a million recalls of the model in Europe.
Paul Carroll says 26 owners of the Avensis in Europe reported problems with the accelerator pedals, but they did not cause any accidents.
He says the pedals become sticky in cold climatic conditions and don't return fast enough to the idle position,.
He says owners of the affected cars in New Zealand will be contacted by Toyota in the next day or so for the fault to be repaired.
