Rower Shaun Quincey says he will have to reset his course to New Zealand.
Quincy, 26, is attempting to row solo across the Tasman Sea from Australia to New Zealand.
His father, Colin Quincey, made the first, and so far only, solo crossing from New Zealand to Australia in 1977.
It's been seven days since he left Coff's Harbour in New South Wales and hopes to reach Taranaki in early March.
Quincey says a storm confined him to his cabin for 26 hours until Monday afternoon.
He says he's drifting towards Australia instead of New Zealand because of a big circle of currents.
Quincey has salt sores all over his body, but says they should settle within a week.
