NZ film incentives 'small' compared to other countries

Film New Zealand says this country gives very small tax breaks compared to others in the industry.

A $45 million tax break was given by the Government for production work done in this country on the record-breaking film Avatar.

The Ministry of Economic Development says the film has contributed $307 million to the New Zealand economy.

Film NZ chair Julian Grimmond told Morning Report that tax incentives here are small compared to other countries.

He said Australia gives 40% and some states in North America deliver 53%.

Mr Grimmond says New York gives 30% and even Hollywood has an incentive.
