A former public figure who claims his employer leaked confidential information to the media about why he left his job, has had an appeal for compensation dismissed by the Employment Relations Authority.
But the ERA has granted the man leave to reapply if it's proved his former employer did leak the story.
Identity details are suppressed but the case involves a man who resigned from his job and negotiated a confidential settlement package.
His resignation was not announced and became public only after a journalist asked the employer if the resignation had any relation to a drink driving conviction.
The man claimed the employer leaked information about his court appearance to the media, which prompted the journalist's questions and subsequent publicity about his resignation.
