Ihaia Gillman-Harris, who was 54, was found injured in his room at the Ascot Motel in Epsom about 9am yesterday. He died later in Auckland Hospital.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said Mr Gillman-Harris drove to Auckland on Boxing Day after spending Christmas with his family in Wellington.

Mr Beard said shortly after Mr Gillman-Harris checked into the motel yesterday, the two men left.

He said police are looking for two men who they would like to identify and they also want to know if anyone saw the silver Mazda 626 which Mr Gillman-Harris drove to Auckland.

Mr Beard said they were also seeking information about Mr Gillman-Harris and they were not sure where he was living in Auckland.

He said Mr Gillman-Harris' family was devastated, and it was tragic a loved one was taken from them during the festive period.

Mr Beard said a post-mortem would be conducted tomorrow morning, as well as a scene reconstruction, to establish what investigators think happened.
