Airport changes to mean less time in queues

4:30 pm on 7 December 2014

Passengers will spend less time in queues because of the introduction of new layouts and x-ray machines at Auckland airport, says the Ministry for Primary Industries.

It said the changes would allow it to improve passenger flows and enable staff to focus more on high-risk passengers.

There will be speedier exit for approved New Zealand and Australian passport holders.

Ministry and Customs staff will work together in a shared search area, and there will be a joint counter for collecting biosecurity fines and customs duties.

The layout changes also provide more space for biosecurity detector dogs.
