A 30-year-old man is in a critical condition in Wellington Hospital after a serious assault on Tuesday night.
The man was left seriously injured on the side of the road in Shannon, near Palmerston North.
Ambulance and police were notified when he sought medical attention.
Police said they believed the offenders were known to the victim, and fled in a dark coloured vehicle.
