MetService has issued a warning of more bad weather on Sunday.
This includes a severe rain warning for the Southern Alps, the West Coast of the South Island and the Tararua Ranges in the lower North Island.
Heavy rainfall is also expected around Mt Taranaki.
Northwesterly winds will strengthen over central New Zealand on Sunday afternoon, reaching gale force in places.
