A father who accidentally shot his young son in the head with an air rifle last month has been charged by police.
A police spokesperson said at the time of the 3 October incident that it happened when the man was removing a rifle from a closet of their Temuka home and it went off.
The 17-month-old boy was taken to Starship hospital in Auckland but had since been discharged and was recovering at home.
The accident happened in their home in Temuka, in South Canterbury.
A 26-year-old Temuka man has been charged with careless use of a firearm.
