Mighty River fraud case to go to trial

12:19 pm on 30 September 2014

An engineer accused of a $2 million fraud against Mighty River Power has denied the charges and will face a jury trial.

Paul Kenneth Rose, 42, who was an electrical engineer at the Southdown power station, faces four charges of obtaining by deception. Jane Clare Rose, 42, faces two charges.

Both appeared at the Auckland District Court this morning where their lawyers entered not guilty pleas on their behalf.

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) says the pair were married at the time of the offending.

Mr Rose was in charge of buying goods and services for the gas-fired power plant in Penrose.

The SFO alleges he falsely billed Mighty River Power for goods or services between 2005 and 2012.

Both have been remanded on bail and are due back in court in November.
