Fallen power lines are causing significant delays on State Highway two north of Wellington.
The Transport Agency said strong winds caused trees to topple, which brought down three lines across northbound lanes.
It said a minor crash was also causing delays.
The agency said maintenance crews hoped to clear the road later tonight.
