2:53 pm on 31 August 2014

Police in Waikato are investigating an armed hold-up of a hotel in Pirongia last night, in which its two owners were assaulted and left tied-up.

Police say two men walked into Pirongia Hotel on Franklin Street just after midnight on Saturday, threatened and assaulted the owners, bound them and then left with some cash.

Senior Sergeant Pete Hamilton said despite being tied up, one of the owners managed to alert the police. The pair received only minor injuries.

A scene examination was being carried out, and police have appealed for witnesses.
