Police in Waikato say it is possible charges could be laid against the owner of two dogs that killed a seal yesterday.
About lunchtime, joggers and walkers in Tairua's inner harbour witnessed the mauling of the small seal by two pitbull-type dogs.
Senior constable Matt Goodman said thanks to a member of the public getting the owner of the dogs' car registration number, they were able to locate him.
He said the police were investigating alongside the Department of Conservation and the Thames Coromandel District Council to determine what, if any, charges are to be laid.
