Thieves in Christchurch have made off with medical equipment essential for managing the chronic pain a 22-year-old woman suffers from.

Police are seeking help from the public to locate the spinal cord stimulator programmer, which was taken in a burglary in Sydenham in the early hours of 31 July.

The device is just one of three in New Zealand, is valued at about $30,000 and is of no functional use to anyone else.

A spokesperson says Rebecca Jacques requires the device to manage chronic pain.

Miss Jacques is suffering significantly without the device and police are hoping that it can be located and returned to her.

Other items including two x-boxes, a laptop, hard drive, perfume and gym bag were also taken.
