Nurse deregistered over relationship

A Hawke's Bay nurse has been deregistered for having a sexual relationship with a former mental health patient.

The Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal says Jason McMillan broke professional boundaries.

It said while working as her nurse in 2011, Mr McMillan told the young woman he had dreams about her and she was meant to be in his life.

Within six weeks of her being discharged from the mental health unit, their relationship became sexual.

Mr McMillan has accepted the charge of professional misconduct and must pay $13,500 in prosecution costs.
