The city's deputy mayor, Paul Matheson, is travelling to Amsterdam next week to offer his condolences to those affected by the loss of flight MH17.

On behalf of the mayor, councillors and citizens of Nelson, Mr Matheson will place flowers and sign the condolences book at the World Trade Centre Hall at Schiphol Airport.

Mr Matheson says it is one small way the community can at least acknowledge their thoughts and sympathies are with all those affected by the crash.
