The Fire Service has brought a blaze under control at the Silver Fern Farms processing plant in Hastings.
Six fire engines were sent to the meatworks in the suburb of Whakatu at 4am on Wednesday.
On-scene commander Colin Littlewood said the fire began in a drying area and spread to the boiler room.
The fire in the boiler room had been put out and crews were getting to the drying line through the roof of the plant.
Mr Littlewood said the fire had been difficult to extinguish because it was in the ceiling cavity. No one was injured.
