Unitec accused of failing to consult

Tertiary educator Unitec in Auckland is being accused of failing to inform residents about its plans to develop its campus.

Unitec wants to rezone 53.5 hectares of its Mount Albert campus to develop a new education hub, as well as free up land for housing.

It has made the submission under the Auckland Council's draft unitary plan.

But Mount Albert Residents' Association said its members are worried the plans will mean high traffic on quiet streets, and a loss of green space.

The association said Unitec has told it it does not have an obligation to speak to residents about its plans.

However, Unitec said it has spoken to some affected groups and individuals.
