Christchurch cycleway work begins

Work on the cycleway connecting Christchurch's central city and the University of Canterbury will begin this summer.

The route is part of the Christchurch City Council's $68 million project to create 13 major cycleways throughout the city.

The cycleway will provide a link through Hagley Park, connecting streets, and Ilam Road through to the university's campus.

Councillor Phil Clearwater said this route was a clear standout to be considered as one of the first built.

He said staff were preparing a report on feedback to make recommendations for the council's next steps.
