A Christchurch gelatine factory, which residents are challenging for emitting a widespread stench, has been given more time to prepare its case before going into a hearing.
Gelita is based in the industrial suburb of Woolston, and since the Canterbury earthquakes has been accused of a stench which comes from its factory.
Gelita is applying to the Canterbury Regional Council for a three-year grace period during which its resource consent will allow discharging of contaminants.
A hearing was scheduled for 23 June, but for health and safety reasons the date has been pushed out to 1 September.
Gelita plant manager Gary Monk said he needed time to gather information, and assess the consequences of any proposed modifications.
