A roof costing up to $100 million that would allow Wellington's Westpac Stadium to be an all-weather venue is being considered.
In recent years AC/DC and the Rolling Stones have performed at the stadium, known locally as the cake tin. A roof would allow more international concerts and more sports events such as the Rugby Sevens.
A study funded by both the stadium and the city council is being carried out to see whether either a partial or complete cover of the stadium would be feasible.
Built in 2000, the stadium is in the midst of a $29 million makeover, including a new mezzanine lounge.
Stadium chief executive Shane Harmon said an engineers assessment will need to be done because the building was not designed to support a roof.
The feasibility study, which will also look at whether a completely new arena is a better option, is expected to be completed by September.
