Reparation ordered for indecent assaults

9:37 pm on 29 May 2014

A former dental service employee who indecently assaulted three girls has avoided prison and ordered to pay reparation for the girls' emotional harm.

Jitendra Tahal, 56, pleaded guilty to assaulting the girls in their mid-teens while escorting them from class to a dental nurse.

In sentencing at the Manukau District Court, Judge Bouchier noted the sheer vulnerability of the girls and the abuse of trust.

His lawyer said Tahal has referred himself to a psychiatrist and a programme to treat harmful sexual behaviour and is ashamed of his actions.

Judge Bouchier sentenced Tahal to nine months' home detention and ordered him to pay $2000 in reparation to each teenager.
