Convicted rapist on parole again

A man who raped and murdered a woman in Palmerston North 21 years ago has been re-released on parole after finding suitable accommodation.

Carl Liam Martinson spent about two decades behind bars for killing 19-year-old Donnell Wood in 1993.

He was released from jail in 2012, but was recalled last year after breaching curfew.

The Parole Board assessed him earlier this month and he was again released from jail this week.

It says Community Probation has deemed the property where he is staying as suitable to house him.

The Board has imposed special conditions, including not to enter Palmerston North without approval, not to approach or enter strip clubs, night clubs or brothels without approval.

The special conditions are in place until May 2019.
