Job advertisements rose 2.6 percent in April, helped by an increase of 2.9 percent in the number of vacancies advertised online.

It's the fourth consecutive month that the ANZ Bank's survey of job advertisements, which is seasonally adjusted, has shown an increase.

The number of job advertisements in newspapers rose by 0.7 percent.

But the result for the year ended April was a fall of 12 percent in newspaper ads, continuing a downward trend.

Online jobs advertising for the same period rose 21 percent.
