Dominion Road costs soar

11:11 am on 6 May 2014

The costs of redeveloping Auckland's Dominion Road have jumped 40 percent.

In 2012 Auckland Transport said the upgrades would cost $47 million; the cost now is set at $66.3 million.

The agency says the added cost is due to having to buy more properties than planned.

The project will see small parts of the road widened and bus lanes begin from the South Western motorway to View Road near the city.

Cars won't be allowed to be parked in those areas during peak hours.

There will also be more bus stops, improved footpaths, median strips that can be used by pedestrians, bike stands and seating.
