A private developer is paying for power lines servicing a new subdivison in Christchurch to be laid underground.
John Hayson says the project has taken seven years of planning and consenting but is now underway in conjunction with Transpower.
Mr Hayson says he is paying more than $4 million for five kilometres of the lines to be laid and for the removal of old overhead lines and pylons.
