Water is flowing through the Tekapo Canal again, now that a multi-million dollar repair job has been completed.
The work, which has taken two summers to complete, was done by electricity and gas supplier, Genesis Energy, at a cost of about $145 million.
Spokesperson for Genesis Energy Richard Gordon says 150 people have worked on the repairs, including specialists at lining canals from Europe.
He says 6 kms of the 25 km canal was re-lined and parts were strengthened for protection against earthquakes.
Mr Gordon says water is now flowing through the canal and the Tekapo B station, which sits in the bed of lake Pukaki, is generating electricity.
