A nephew of Mana Party leader Hone Harawira has lost an appeal over his sentence for beating a 12-year-old boy in his own home in 2012.
Mau Harawira was convicted of theft and injuring with intent, and jailed last year for three years and two months.
He and two others chased the boy into his home in the Auckland suburb of Blockhouse Bay where he was punched, slapped and dragged through the house before being robbed.
The boy needed hospital treatment after the beating.
The Court of Appeal says it was a serious and sustained assault and it's satisfied with the sentence.
