Ugandan cricket players come forward

Two Ugandan cricket players who went missing in New Zealand after playing in a tournament last month have come forward.

Faruk Ochimi and Raymond Otim disappeared after competing in an ICC World Cup qualifying tournament. Their visas expired and Immigration New Zealand and the police had launched an investigation.

But Immigration said the two men have now come forward and submitted an immigration application, which is being considered. The department said it was unable to comment further for privacy and legal reasons.

Uganda Cricket Association chief executive Justine Ligyalingi said last week that everyone felt frustrated and disappointed by the disappearance of the two men.

He was concerned the two men's actions could return to haunt other cricket players, because their visa applications for future international tours would be more likely to be turned down.
