Accused teacher remanded on bail

An Auckland primary school teacher accused of sexually abusing his students is facing fresh charges.

The man, 68, who has name suppression to protect the identity of his students, appeared at the High Court in Auckland on Wednesday where it was revealed three more complainants have come forward.

The teacher was to face trial next month on 11 charges of indecently assaulting children, but Justice Brewer said that would not now go ahead because there would be fresh charges.

He said it was in no one's interest to push the trial out a further six months, but he had no choice.

Justice Brewer remanded the accused on bail and set a new date of 8 September for a trial.
