Man admits part in attack on Germans

A man has admitted to the aggravated robbery of two German tourists on Boxing Day in Whakatane.

An 18-year old man has admitted to the aggravated robbery of two German tourists on Boxing Day in Whakatane.

Mark Wikotu, 18, appeared in the Youth Court in Whakatane on Friday, along with four others, in relation to the attack that left the tourists with broken teeth, cuts and bruises.

A 14- and 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl did not enter pleas and were remanded in custody to next appear on 7 February.

Mr Wikotu also admitted to unlawfully getting into a vehicle.

The suppression of his name was lifted, while interim name suppression was continued for a 17- year-old facing the same charges.

The 17-year old entered pleas of not guilty and will next appear for a case review hearing on 19 March.

Mr Wikotu was given a nominal sentencing date of 7 May.
