NCEA results being published

10:13 am on 15 January 2014

A nervous wait is ending for 143,000 secondary school students who sat NCEA exams at the end of last year with results going online on Wednesday.

It will be the first time the Qualifications Authority has published the results online on a specific day instead of saying they will be available some time in mid-January.

The change follows a debacle last year, when some students spotted their results during a midnight test of the NZQA system, and once the results were officially published, access to them was very slow.

The Qualifications Authority says it has made every effort to ensure that does not happen again.

It hopes students will be less anxious about their results because they know they will be available on Wednesday.

The authority says last year's exams were marked by the end of December, but it has taken several weeks to prepare the results and combine them with students' internal assessment results.
