Police have named two people who died in a three-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 near Sanson.
They were Margaret Jane Turnbull, 51, and her son Trent Cole Whitburn, 20, from Levin.
They died when the Nissan they were driving became stuck between two trucks and the crash resulted in a large fire on Wednesday morning.
Acting Detective Sergeant Shelly Ross said the crash investigation is continuing and it is too early to say if criminal charges will be laid.
