A man who had been swimming in Pilot Bay in Mount Maunganui has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after being found floating face down.
A St John ambulance spokesperson said the man in his 50s was found by a member of the public on Monday afternoon and brought to the shore.
Members of the public also started CPR on the man before ambulance officers arrived about 1.20pm. He was taken to Tauranga Hospital.
