MetService says the weather over the holiday break has been unsettled for most of the country, with the West Coast of the South Island being the wettest place.
The East Coast of the North Island had the best weather.
Forecaster Rochelle Flemming said bad weather is not unusual for this time of year, but it stands out against the sunny days of last Christmas and New Year.
She said the weather should become more settled in the next few days.
