RNZ transmission problem fixed

5:10 pm on 1 January 2014

Storm damage to a satellite transmitter which interrupted service on Radio New Zealand National and Radio New Zealand Concert on the FM frequency in many parts of the country on Wednesday has been repaired.

Radio New Zealand National FM could be heard only in Wellington and Auckland after about 1pm.

Radio New Zealand Concert FM was out in the whole of the North Island, except the capital.

Reception in the South Island experienced intermittent dropouts on both stations throughout the afternoon.

Telecommunications provider Kordia said it has repaired the damaged equipment and it expects no further problems.

Radio New Zealand National continued to broadcast on its AM frequency and on the internet.
