This summer could be the last that boaties in Auckland can go on small boats without a lifejacket.
Consultation will take place early next year on a proposed bylaw to make wearing lifejackets compulsory on boats six metres long or less.
Some boaties are fighting the bylaw, arguing it won't necessarily save lives.
Auckland Council member Alf Filipaina is one of those pushing for compulsory lifejackets. He says the consultation process should show what the public wants.
