Waikato police say they have caught a drink driver two and a half times over the legal limit for alcohol in his breath.
The 26-year old Hamilton man was stopped during a routine patrol at about 9am on Boxing Day.
Senior Sergeant Dave Litton says the man's licence was suspended following roadside tests.
The driver told the police he had stopped drinking at about 3am, but Mr Litton says he did not allow enough time for the alcohol to leave his system before driving.
The man was arrested and will appear in court in January on a drink-drive related charge.
