Nelson and Waikato have secured the largest shares of the latest round of Government funding for private conservation projects.
In all $3.6 million from two funds managed by the Department of Conservation have been allocated to 90 community schemes .
Eleven projects in Nelson received funding of $412,485 with $179,998 of that going to the Golden Bay branch of Forest and Bird to remove pest vines such as banana passion vine and old man's beard.
Nearly $400,000 will be spent on six Waikato projects, including pest and weed eradication.
Other areas receiving significant amounts of funding include Hawke's Bay, Northland, East Coast and Coromandel.
