Work to beautify the site of the collapsed CTV building in Christchurch will begin shortly after Christmas.
Chief executive of Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority Roger Sutton and mayor of Christchurch Lianne Dalziel have announced plans for a temporary memorial on the site where 115 people were killed.
The announcement comes after Maan Alkaisi, who lost his wife Maysoon Abbas in the February 2011 earthquake, appealed to the Christchurch City Council for help to tidy up the site.
Mr Sutton says about $20,000 will be spent on grassing some of the site, replacing the current high fencing with a low post and chain fence, and putting planter boxes on the perimeter.
A sign that recognises the site's significance will also be erected.
He says work will begin in the coming weeks.
