Tourists rescued from national park

The Aoraki Alpine rescue team has flown two men out of Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park after one was moderately injured during a tramp.

Police say the Israeli men aged 22 and 28 set off on Sunday to walk from the Hooker Valley to Tasman Valley.

The younger man slipped and fell about 8.30pm that evening and on Monday morning the pair decided they were unable to continue. They were picked up at about 11am.

Police said they were contacted in a round-about way, with the men texting a friend, who sent a text to another friend, who got in touch with the Department of Conservation centre, whose staff then rang the police.
