A skateboarder is dead after being hit by a car in a suburb near Rangiora.
The incident happened about 5.20pm on Thursday on Carrs Road.
Police said the man walked into the path of a car while attempting to retrieve his skateboard.
He was Jamie Richard Haggath, 20, of Loburn.
Sergeant Colin Stewart of Rangiora said the incident is a sad reminder that pedestrians and drivers need to consider their safety at all times.
