Police are out in numbers again on Saturday night in a crack-down on violence, drink-driving, and liquor bans.

It's the latest weekend in a series in which the police in New Zealand and Australia have combined in a campaign called Operation Unite, with extra police on duty at breath-testing checkpoints.

Figures from Friday night's operation in New Zealand, show 15,630 were stopped at checkpoints.

Just over 100 were arrested for drink driving, and 65 for breaching liquor bans.

The operation, which started at 6pm on Friday, runs until Sunday morning.
