The New Zealand Herald leads with the death of a father and his six-year-old daughter in a kayaking accident on Lake Tarawera. Witnesses said the girl fell in and her father made frantic efforts to save her but both disappeared from sight.
The paper also contains a property price guide for 420 Auckland suburbs with plenty of analysis on which new areas to watch.
Waikato Times
'Underage liquor sales online' is the headline in The Waikato Times. The paper says Gavin Mills has complained to liquor outlet The Mill, after his son, aged 17, was able to order a $30 bottle of vodka online. The teenager used his debit card to pay for the purchase which was delivered by courier to his Hamilton east home.
In other news: the paper suggests staff from Waikato District Health Board may have stumbled over signs of possible sexual abuse at a school where a teacher now charged with child sexual offences once worked.
Dominion Post
The Dominion Post reports on two men due to be honoured with medals for their bravery for rescuing a truck driver in 2010. Bill Stirling's foot was jammed in the crumpled wreck of his smoke filled truck when journalist Martin Kay and flooring contractor Colin Wiggins dragged him to safety.
The paper also has a photo of the giant eagle sculpture which has appeared above the foodcourt at Wellington airport as part of the launch of the second film in The Hobbit series.
The Press
The Press says insurers have attacked the city's main earthquake litigator in Christchurch. The paper says Auckland-based lawyer Grant Shand is offside with insurers who are angered by what they say are excessive and unfounded claims.
The tiny West Coast town of Otira is for sale - again. The town includes 18 houses, a hall, the hotel and the fire station and is estimated to be worth about $1 million.

The Otago Daily Times leads with the launch of an investigation at Dunedin City Council after an apparently misleading response to an official information request about vending machines at Moana Pool.
The paper has pictures of a Santa parade on Sunday and there's analysis of Black Caps captain Brendon McCallum's match for local club Albion on Saturday.
