Assets of $1.6 million have been confiscated from a convicted drug dealer.

Scott Filer from Waihi was jailed in February last year for 17 years for manufacturing methamphetamine.

Police went to the High Court to recover his assets under the Criminal Proceeds Recovery Act.

The court ruled on Thursday that Filer had benefited from his crime and that his assets should be forfeited.

The assets include several vehicles, real estate in Waihi, Whangamata and Northland

Filer also owned a marina berth at Whangamata valued at $120,000.

Police say the stripping of assets, which have been illegally gained, is a vital preventative measure which sends a clear message that crime does not pay.
