Murder-accused withdraws bail application

2:11 pm on 26 November 2013

One of the men accused of setting a man on fire and murdering him has withdrawn his bail application.

The body of 21-year-old Shalvin Prasad was found in a scrub fire in South Auckland in February this year.

Bryne Permal is one of two men charged with Mr Prasad's murder.

His lawyer, Iswari Jayanandan, had lodged an application for electronically-monitored bail, but that was withdrawn at the Auckland High Court on Tuesday.

Crown solicitor Simon Moore, QC, appeared on behalf of police, but Radio New Zealand is not able to report the details of his arguments or anything else that was said in court for legal reasons.

The police summary of facts said Mr Prasad was set on fire after withdrawing $30,000 in cash from a bank.

Mr Permal and co-accused Shivneel Kumar are due to stand trial in July 2014.
