The actual front page reports on how German hiker Wanja Drees was rescued after tumbling 100 metres down Mt Ruapehu on Sunday. He told the paper he used his shoelaces to tie his legs together and inch his way down the mountain.

The Waikato Times has a photograph of Wanja Drees in hospital with a broken leg following his fall. He told the paper his training as a volunteer firefighter and positive attitude helped him through the ordeal.
The paper also has a picture of Charlie, a kleptomaniac cat. Owner Susie Partington says he often returns home with socks and underwear, but the latest item - a pair of a neighbour's speedos - will be much harder to return.

The Dominion Post reports on proposed plans by BP to shift its head office from Wellington to Auckland. The paper says the company wants to walk away from its earthquake damaged headquarters in Customhouse Quay, and is in consultation with staff.

The Press leads with the story of the former owner of Lane Walker Rudkin, who has been sentenced to prison for six years for fraud after the company collapsed. Judge Jane Farish told the court said Kenneth Anderson, 66, had lost everything and was now a broken man.
