Greenpeace says protests along the west coast of the North Island on Saturday are a wake-up call to the Government that there is strong opposition to deep sea oil drilling.

It says hundreds of people attended the protests at 35 beaches, with the largest crowd of over 1000 gathering at Piha for speeches and a haka.
Greenpeace energy campaigner Steve Abel says the protesters are expressing with the flotilla of six boats stationed at Anadarko's exploration site off the coast of Raglan.
Mr Abel says the Banners on the Beach protests have had an amazing turnout.
He says the turnout should send a strong message to the government and Anadarko that New Zealanders do not support deep sea drilling.
Mr Abel says the size of the protests shows just how passionate New Zealanders are about saving the environment.
